The Sazerac; A New Orleans Classic!

The Sazerac Cocktail is a classic cocktail with a rich history, originating in New Orleans in the 19th century. It is known for its complex and bold flavor profile, which combines the smoothness of whiskey with the herbal and aromatic notes of bitters and absinthe. The Stave & Slide version harkens back to the drinks origins, which used cognac instead of rye, by combining rye and cognac for this special edition of the beloved cocktail. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do!

Ingredients:

- 1.5 oz Rye Whiskey

- .5 oz Cognac

- .25 oz simple syrup

- 4 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters

- Absinthe or Herbsaint

- Lemon peel

Instructions:

1. Chill a Single Old Fashioned, Rocks, or Gibraltar glass by filling it with ice and water and allowing it to sit while you prepare the cocktail. Alternatively, place your glass (not crystal) in the freezer.

2. In a separate mixing glass, add simple syrup with four dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters.

3. Add rye and cognac to the mixing glass.

4. Fill mixing glass with ice and stir until well chilled.

5. Remove chilled glass from freezer or discard ice water from chilled glass and mist with absinthe/Herbsaint using an atomizer. Alternatively, you can “rinse” the glass by adding a small amount of absinthe/Herbsaint in the glass, swirling it to coat all sides and discarding the remainder.

5. Strain from mixing glass through a Julep strainer into the chilled glass.

6. Express the oils of a lemon peel over the surface of the drink then discard.

7. Serve or enjoy!
